Passionate about creating gorgeous transformations for each and every one of her clients, Simone Adams has been a certified Great Lengths stylist since 2006.
Having been awarded a number of Great Lengths accolades, including Rising Star in 2010, Gold Trophy Finalist in 2012 and Gold Trophy Fashion Creation and Avant-Garde Finalist in 2014, we thought we would catch up with Simone about her love for Great Lengths…
Tell us a bit about your experience in the hair industry…
I’ve been in the industry for 13 years now. Along the way I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of the Fellowship of British Hairdressing team, Project X in 2014 and to work alongside some of our industry’s icons. I’ve also showcased my work on stage at Pro Hair Live and Salon International.
Today, I’m a senior stylist and qualified assessor for Mark Riley Hairdressers and Mark Riley Training Academy in Huddersfield and Brighouse.
What would you say to those thinking about trying Great Lengths?
Do it! I’ve never had a client who didn’t love their transformation. Just make sure you do your homework, have an in-depth consultation and ask to see lots of ‘before and after’ photos. Ask to see photos of previous bond work by the stylist – neat bonds make all the difference to application and easy aftercare at home.
We’re sure you get asked lots of questions about hair extensions. What are the most common?
There are three questions I always get asked:
- Where does the hair come from?
- Will they damage my hair?
- How long will they last?
Extensions have had bad press in the past but, like most things, they’ve come a long way. When applied properly they are virtually undetectable in the hair and are easy to maintain – opening up a whole host of new styling opportunities for the wearer. I always direct my clients over to the Great Lengths website for information on how the hair is sourced, how they won’t cause damage to their natural hair and how long they’ll last, when well maintained.
Why do you think so many people are now choosing hair extensions?
People are realising they can have the perfect, thick glamorous hair they dreamed of. With Great Lengths, the colour possibilities are endless making it much easier for clients to achieve the look they want – whether it’s pastels or a warm, tonal look.
What made you want to start working with hair extensions?
I’ve always had a love for added hair, whether it’s weaves, wigs or braids! I love the versatility. I wanted to bring something to the salon that was wearable on an every-day basis and that would also stimulate my passion and creativity. I did lots of research and came across Great Lengths – I immediately fell in love with the philosophy of the ethically sourced hair. I’m also a firm believer in pre-bonded extensions being a safer and more undetectable option. They are amazing to work with, nine years later and I’ve never looked back!
What do you think the next trend in hair extensions will be?
I’d love to see extensions used more to enhance shorter styles. I feel most transformations are from short to long but extensions are so versatile they can completely change shorter styles too. I’d also love to work more with crazy colours; they can really bring a style to life!
What has been your favourite Great Lengths transformation?
I adore my entry for the Great Lengths Avant Garde award. It’s a real favourite of mine and I’m really proud of it. I got to push the boundaries with the hair and created something that was out of the norm!
