Congratulations to this month’s Hair of Fame winner, Laura Robertson. Laura is the Creative Director at Sally Montague Hair Group in Derbyshire and we caught up with her to get the lowdown in our exclusive Q&A.
How did you get into the hairdressing industry?
At the age of 12 I knew I wanted to be a hairdresser. As soon as I left school I went into the hairdressing business and went to work in a small, local salon where I completed an apprenticeship. I knew I wanted more opportunities and to further myself in my career and that’s when I applied for a position at Sally Montague Hair Group. Along the way I’ve achieved a lot of personal goals and learnt so much about the hairdressing industry.
Why did you choose to work with Great Lengths?
I chose to work with Great Lengths because the quality of the hair is the best out there. Once you’ve had a set of Great Lengths you won’t want any other brand and I only want to give the best to my clients.
What is your favourite part of the job?
For me it’s seeing the start to finish transformation. Nothing’s more satisfying than seeing how happy you can make someone and knowing they feel like a million dollars.
Who is your celebrity hair inspiration?
It’s really hard to pick one, as I take inspiration from a lot of celebrities for different reasons. But, at the moment I’d have to say Jennifer Lawrence. She’s not afraid to change her style and every time she goes for a new look she pulls it off and looks great. From pixie crops to extensions and from blonde to brunette hues, she’s one of Hollywood’s most versatile hair icons.
How would your clients describe you?
My clients would describe me as smiley/friendly, a perfectionist and realistic (in terms of what can be achieved with their hair).
What can clients expect when they visit Sally Montague Hair Group?
When visiting Sally Montague Hair Group, clients always receive the five star experience. We pride ourselves on our expertise, fusing creativity and technical ability and deliver an outstanding service.
What feedback do you receive from your clients who have had Great Lengths extensions?
My most popular feedback from clients is how confident they feel, which in day-to-day life makes such a massive difference. Clients also say how they find their hair so much easier to style and that their look holds better. They enjoy how thick their hair feels but also how natural it looks and people can’t tell they even have extensions.
What hero advice do you give to your clients to help keep their Great Lengths in tip-top condition?
It’s really important to follow the aftercare advice and to book in regular maintenance visits to get the best results and to keep their Great Lengths in amazing condition. It’s in their best interest and ours.
What is the best piece of advice you can give to stylists who are considering starting out in the hairdressing in business?
Make sure you always create a memorable and repeatable client experience – every visit is a new one!
What is your favourite Great Lengths transformation to date and why?
This is one of my favourite Great Lengths transformations because I feel the hair has been totally transformed into a beautiful, glossy blonde, which a lot of women desire.
What is your signature style?
The blonde bombshell! I’ve done a lot of colour corrections for clients with blonde hair where I’ve added Great Lengths hair extensions. I’ve received more clients from word of mouth so I guess it’s become my signature style.
What hairstyle do you feel will be a big trend this season?
I think the cool girl, effortless waves will be a big hit this season. I’ve seen it on the catwalk and a lot on social media. The look is so versatile and can be achieved with both short and long hair.
