With our prestigious Great Lengths UK Awards 2018 on the horizon, excitement for the ceremony is growing in abundance. Returning for the fifth time to the UK, the awards celebrate the creativity and passion of Great Lengths certified stylists and will see winners awarded in categories including ‘Captivating Colour’, ‘Longer Length’ and new category, ‘Hair of Fame’.
Amongst a host of brilliant prizes, we’ll be giving each winner two tickets as part of a group tour to the Great Length’s production factory in Rome in 2019. Previous winners have enjoyed national recognition and exclusive opportunities to heighten their profile in the industry. We decided to catch up with some of our winners from the UK GL Awards 2016-2017 to see what they had to say about winning their awards, what it meant to them and how it’s helped their career or business.
James Henderson from M Hair, took home ‘The Great Lengths Trophy – ‘Extension Excellence’ category and put the victory down to working alongside a strong team; “success is all about teamwork and I credit my whole team and my amazing clients for the success…entering the GL Awards has been a great team-building exercise.”
Emma Choremi from McQueen’s salon in Bristol won the ‘Gold Salon Award’ and felt honoured to have been recognised for her and her team’s hard work, “it was a real honour for us to have this award that we worked so hard for.”
The Gold Salon Award recognises stylists for their outstanding work and is just one of the prestigious categories at the Great Lengths Awards. Emma’s advice to ambitious stylists is to put themselves forward for the awards; “It’s really uplifting….and it does really help grow your business with the marketing and everything that comes with it.”
The UK Awards include a whole host of diverse and inventive categories; the last UK award winner of the ‘Avant-Garde’ category (now renamed the ‘Creative Category’ at this year’s awards), Steve Barnes, from Reuben Wood Hair & Beauty, said that he entered to heighten his profile within the hairdressing industry. He confirmed that “winning was a great talking point within the salon and made me a credible extensionist.” His advice to stylists wanting to enter? “Don’t create a look to win, create a look that you love.”
Our previous winners talk about the pride they felt when entering, attending and winning the awards. Kirby Hickey from Hair by Kirby Blythe won the ‘Classic Creation- Colour’ & ‘Classic Creation – Volume’ categories and said “getting to the final felt amazing, but being able to take home that trophy felt wonderful… we can’t wait to do it all again.”
All four winners emphasised the positive impact that winning a GL Award has had on their reputation and business. Emma said, “the award really put us on the map and we’ve been recognised as the go to place…winning the award has not only grown my client base, it’s actually grown my business.”
