Caprio’s Hair Studio owner, Joanne Barnett-Toop, winner of the Great Lengths 2014/15 Silver Salon Award, talks to us about her winning entry…
Tell us a bit more about you, your experience and your salon
I’m the salon owner at Caprio’s Hair Studio, Kingswinford and have over 26 years’ of hairdressing experience. I started my career when I was 15 years old and worked at a number of hair salons until I was 25. I made the decision to open my own salon and in 1998, Caprio’s Hair Studio was born. It’s been a bumpy ride with numerous break ins, the hit of the recession and a salon fire resulting in us having to close for four months, but I’m proud to say that with my work ethic and determination, I have survived all that and have just celebrated 16 years in business. Caprio’s has a strong team of 6 Stylists and 2 support Staff and we provide expert hairdressing for all clients, from toddlers to Great Grandparents!
What was the inspiration behind your winning Great Lengths Awards entry?
I think promoting your salon is essential, there isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t promote Caprio’s Hair Studio and its team. I put a lot of time and effort into my entry, presenting to the judges some of our before and after transformation images, evidence of how I promote and market our extension work on social media, in local magazines and on the salon website. Now I’ve been recognised as the best Great Lengths Silver Salon, my aim is to work towards becoming a Great Lengths Gold Salon.
How long you been working with Great Lengths?
I’ve been providing Great Lengths to our clients for 2 ½ years.
What’s your most requested hair extensions look, and why?
Clients come to us for extensions to generally thicken up and lengthen their hair, but at the same time they want the extensions to look as natural as possible. The majority of my clients opt for the 30cm length in classic base shades.
